Meghan Markle’s friend Gayle King said Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship is “strained” during coverage of Prince Philip’s funeral.
The Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge reunited for the first time in more than a year as they attended the St George’s Chapel service for the Duke of Edinburgh on Saturday, April 17.
Meghan, who is heavily pregnant, did not join Harry for the funeral after being advised to stay at her California home for medical reasons.
Just ahead of the funeral, her pal and CBS This Morning presenter Gayle King briefed the viewers on the members of the Royal Family who walked behind Prince Philip’s coffin during the procession.
She said: “Prince Charles and Princess Ann will walk behind their father.
“The prince’s other sons, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, will be next in line.
“Then we will see Prince William and Prince Harry, their cousin Peter Phillips will be walking between them, the Queen’s oldest grandson.
“William and Harry, there’s no secret about this, have had a strained relationship you could say since Harry stepped away from his royal duties.”
Gayle said the funeral is restricted to a number of 30 people not only because of Covid-19, but also claimed it’s the way Philip wanted it.
“People who I know say that was the kind of man he was,” she added. “Just 30 mourners from immediate family will attend plus a few relatives from the Duke’s extended family.”
During the service, Harry sat alone and “looked nervous” inside the chapel as he tapped his feet but later showed unity with his brother.
Royal watchers were excited when the pair walked side-by-side with Kate Middleton and the trio chatted as they made their way back to the royal residence.
