Spain will only let Brits touch down for holiday if they are fully-vaccinated or have a negative ‘Gold Standard’ PCR test.
The decision comes just days after the Mediterranean country’s Balearic Islands were added to the UK’s travel ‘green’ list.
Portugal has also announced it is only accepting fully-vaccinated British tourists.
Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez explained the move is a cautious response to the UK’s “worrying†coronavirus figures as the accumulated 14-day rate was “well above 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants,†The Mirror reports.
The Prime Minister has taken a dramatic change in policy regarding holidaymakers having last month invited Brits to Spain with no Covid tests or vaccine requirements.
France and Germany had maintained tougher requirements to enter.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been pushing for an EU-wide quarantine on British tourists, something Spain’s Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya suggested they would ignore.
