Stars who quickly got the chop from England boss Big Sam to Top Gear’s Chris Evans

Northern Ireland’s Democratic Union Party is looking for a new leader – after Edwin Poots quit after just 21 days in the job.

It makes him the DUP’s shortest-serving leader – but plenty of other famous faces have had equally brief periods of time in their roles.

Here Daily Star looks at others whose tenures were brought to an abrupt halt…

Sam Allardyce

He left his role as England manager in 2016 after just one winning match.

It followed a newspaper investigation claiming he offered advice on how to “get around” rules on player transfers – all while drinking a pint of white wine.

At least that gives him a 100% success rate…

Leroy Rosenior

But Allardyce is a veteran compared to former Fulham, QPR, and West Ham striker Rosenior who lasted just 10 minutes as Torquay United manager in 2007.

He was ­appointed while a takeover by a local consortium was underway and they quickly brought in their own man.

George Lazenby

The model, who had no film experience, played 007 for a single outing, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, in 1969.

He quit the role right before the premiere, claiming: “The ­producers made me feel like I was mindless. They disregarded everything I suggested simply ­because I hadn’t been in the film business like them for about a thousand years.”

Chris Evans

Filling the shoes of Jeremy Clarkson and co was ­always ­going to be tricky but Evans resigned after just one series of Top Gear in 2016 amid plummeting ratings.

He tweeted: “Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough.”

Frank de Boer

He holds the record for coach with the shortest reign in Premier League history, notching up just five games in charge at Crystal Palace in 207.

De Boer is currently coaching the Netherlands in the Euros.

David Laws

The Lib Dem fell foul of the MPs expenses scandal and had just 17 days as Chief Secretary to the Treasury during the 2010 coalition before it emerged he had claimed more than £40,000 in expenses for a second home – but was ­actually paying rent to his secret boyfriend.

Diane James

While UKIP has had a succession of short-lived leaders, James takes the biscuit.

She resigned from the leadership of the party on October 4, 2016, 18 days after being elected, saying she didn’t have “sufficient authority”. Someone call Jackie Weaver…

Louis XIX of France

He became the world’s shortest-serving monarch in 1830.

After his father’s abdication, he ascended to the throne but abdicated himself around 20 minutes later.

William Henry Harrison

Harrison was the shortest-term US president after he died in 1841, just 31 days into office.

Mark and Lard

Radio presenters Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley landed the flagship Radio 1 Breakfast Show in February 1997.

But low ratings led to the pair being replaced after eight months.

Gabriella Brum

Germany triumphed in the 1980 Miss World but 18-year-old only held the title for 18 hours. She resigned after it was revealed she had posed naked for photographs, which she later did again for Playboy.
