UK Weather: Met Office issue yellow weather warning as Brits braced for washout

There will be plenty of miserable weather about on Thursday as Britain prepare for heavy downpours across the county.

To make matters worse the Met Office have also been forced to issue a yellow weather warning in response.

There had been hopes of temperatures reaching over 20C in some parts of the UK over the next few weeks but the current outlook is not looking positive.

At around 4.30am on Thursday (May 13) the Met Office announced a yellow weather warning was in place for Devon, Somerset and Torbay.

An alert was issued and a statement read: “Persistent heavy rain will continue across parts of Devon and Somerset during Thursday.

“Coming after heavy rainfall on Wednesday night, this will leave surfaces very wet and lead to difficult driving conditions, particularly during the morning.”

The yellow weather warning will be in place until 3pm according to the weather experts with the public told to expect spray and flooding on roads which will make journey times longer.

Bus and train services will also be affected with journey times taking longer than usual.

Across the rest of the UK, Thursday morning will start off wet so if you are travelling to work you will need to take a brolly.

In a post on Twitter the Met Office wrote: “Thursday morning will start wet across much of Wales and southern England, with some rain for the far north of Scotland too

“Elsewhere plenty of dry weather and it will be a chilly start, especially in rural areas.”

This evening showers will be dying out for most of the UK though there will still be some rain for parts of central and southern England and south Wales.

In the north it will remain cool and dry with the worst of the weather remaining down south.

On Friday it will be mostly dry and fine but fairly cloudy for eastern and northern parts.

Wales, southern England and Northern Ireland will see sunny spells and showers but it will be heavy and thundery in Northern Ireland.
