UK weather: Mini heatwave to roll over into next week with 18C scorching temperatures

Brits will continue to reap the benefits of a mini heatwave this week, with the highs of 18C set to last over the next few days.

Some areas may also bask in 18C over the next few days as the majority of Brits make the most of relaxed lockdown rules.

Sunseekers packed out bars and beer gardens on ‘Super Saturday’ on the first weekend the hospitality sector reopened its doors.

Crowds flocked outside to make the most of the sunshine, with people venturing to the coastlines and beaches.

Others chose to order a round in, pint in hand, and support their local restaurants and boozers.

The glorious weather is expected to roll over into next week across England.

The mercury is predicted to stay above average until Tuesday, offering several days of sunny spells.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “We could see max temperatures in the London area of 15 or 16, with an outside chance of 17C.

“As we go into Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday we could see temperatures reach 16 to 18C in southern parts of England and Wales.

“The north is going to be a bit colder. We’ve got cold air coming down the north of the UK on Sunday, with northerly winds picking up through Monday.”

Beaches were packed with families, ice creams and flying kites.

On Sunday night, most will experience a dry evening although the skies will turn overcast for those in the northwest.

Northern Ireland and western Scotland may also see some rain.

However, the beginning of the week is expected to bring back the dry and sunny spells across the country.

The Met continued: “These temperatures are slightly above average for this time of year. It’s normally around 12 or 13C in England in April.

“We’ve made some gains this week with strong sun during the day and some warmer air from the continent which could contribute to the slightly higher temperatures.

“But some colder air will push across Scotland on Tuesday. So far this month it’s been far colder than average.

“We’ve had a lot of frosts and little rain so it will be a welcome change for a short time. Hopefully, people will be able to enjoy the good weather while it’s here.”
