The line of succession includes all of the Queen’s descendants, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but there are also some less familiar faces as you get further down the line
For hundreds of years the British line of succession has determined who becomes King or Queen when a monarch dies or abdicates the throne.
A royal’s position in the line of succession also determines their responsibilities and the rules they must follow.
The four most senior royals over the age of 21 can be appointed Counsellors of the State, which allows them to carry out the monarch’s official duties if they are out of the country, or incapacitated.
And the first six people in line to the throne must ask the monarch’s permission to marry.
