A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an 80-year-old woman was found dead in a bath.
Metropolitan Police discovered the woman after they rushed to a property in Rushden Gardens, Ilford, shortly before 11am yesterday (April 9).
Officers arrived at the property to find a woman, in her 80s, in the bath and not breathing, and immediately called London’s Ambulance Service.
Paramedics attempted to treat the woman but sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene a short while later, it has been reported.
The force said a 54-year-old old man who was known to the woman has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.
The woman’s family have been informed and an investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police force said: “A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in Ilford.
“Police were called to Rushden Gardens, Ilford, at 10:51hrs on Friday, 9 April.
“Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service. A woman, aged in her 80s, was found unconscious and not breathing in a bath.
“Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics at the scene, the woman was pronounced dead at 11.48hrs. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course. The woman’s family have been informed.
“Homicide detectives from Specialist Crime are investigating.
“A 54-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He has been taken into police custody, where he remains. The woman and the man are known to each other.”
