A struggling mum was reduced to tears when a kind stranger handed her a £30 gift cart after the woman overheard her tell her son she couldn’t afford apples.

The woman, known only as Emi T, told her TikTok following of the mum’s plight on Tuesday after coming across her at the shop.

She claims she’d gone to do some shopping and overheard a young boy ask his mum for some apples, who explained to the little boy she couldn’t afford them.

The child seemed very understand of his mum, Emi said, but she still felt compelled to do something nice for the family, the Mirror reported.

Emi told TikTok she grabbed a bag of pink lady apples, bought them, and also a £30 voucher for the supermarket.

Kind Emi then waited outside for the mum to finish her shopping before gifting her the items.

The woman claims the mum “burst into tears” and was so “grateful,” insisting she’d give Emi a hug if it wasn’t for Covid.

Explaining the heartfelt gesture, Emi told TikTok: “So guys, I just need to share something with you.

“I live in the UK and I was just in the supermarket and there was a little boy in there asking his mum for apples – not games consoles, books, crisps or biscuits, apples.

“I’m sorry son, but we can’t afford them. Your dad has lost his job and we just can’t afford it’.

“He didn’t kick up a fuss or anything, I could tell this mum was really embarrassed, but they just went on their way.”

Emi went on to add that the fact this is happening in the “UK” is “so sad” and truly “breaks” her heart.

She said: “And I said, ‘Good things happen to good people’ and you know what the little boy said? He goes ‘I prayed for apples this morning’.

“That’s sad. I live in the UK. This isn’t a Third World country. This is so sad, it breaks my heart.”

The video is a stark reminder of the difficulties families have faced across Britain because of the Covid pandemic.

It has been shared over 115,000 times and garnered more than 20,000 likes, with thousands of comments.
