Woolwich stabbing victim, 15, ‘wanted to be lawyer’ as friends ‘too traumatised to speak’

A schoolboy stabbed to death in the street in broad daylight on Monday “wanted to be a lawyer”, according to the mum of one of his friends.

The horror incident took place New Road, Woolwich, London, with the victim being attacked at 5.25pm on Monday, July 5.

The 15-year-old victim has now been named locally as Harris Academy Greenwich pupil Tamim Ian, who reportedly wanted to become a lawyer, MyLondon reports.

He was apparently caught up in a fight among a group of teenagers, according to a nearby resident.

Armed police were seen running towards a nearby Tesco Extra store which was subsequently evacuated, with reports that an alleged suspect was inside following the incident.

Members of the public held up sheets in front of the victim to allow paramedics to work in privacy as they desperately battled to save the youngster’s life.

Despite their best efforts he died on the pavement less than an hour after he was stabbed.

The mum of a friend of Tamim, who wishes to remain anonymous, told MyLondon: “My daughter is devastated.

“Justice is needed. There were other people with him but they are too traumatised to speak

“His name is Tamim and he went to Harris Greenwich. He wanted to become a lawyer.”

A 15-year-old boy treated at a South London hospital for a stab wound was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

Superintendent Petra Lazar, of the Metropolitan Police South East BCU, said: “It is shocking and extremely saddening that a teenage boy has lost his life as the result of knife crime.

“My thoughts at this time are with the family of the boy who has died.

“This incident will understandably cause worry and concern to local residents and I would like to reassure them my officers are supporting the murder detectives in every way we can.

“Increased patrols will be carried out in the area over the next few days.”

Police stop and search powers were temporarily ramped up in the wake of the incident.
